We’re of the mind that whether it’s two Sapphic supermodels or a 69-year-old fashion icon and his 21-year-old underwear-model boytoy, any flavor of love makes the world a more beautiful place. And while, since the summer, New Yorkers have been able to wed whoever they damn well please, the state is one of only six to recognize same-sex marriage.
But last night, at the Calvin Klein flagship in Manhattan, a group of New York heavy-hitters including Anna Wintour, Robert DeNiro, Neil Patrick Harris, and Francisco Costa gathered to launch Americans for Marriage Equality, an campaign to promote equal marriage rights nationwide. Spearheaded by the Human Rights Campaign, the movement is an expansion of New Yorkers for Marriage Equality, which successfully rallied support for same-sex marriage in the Empire State.
In addition to the well-heeled crowd—i.e. Hamish Bowles, Sally Singer and even professional gala-goer Courtney Love—guests at the launch got to check out a specially commissioned sculpture by Nathaniel Rackowe. In case your invite got lost in the mail, you can check out the installation through January 3, and don't forget to throw in your support for the cause here.
Rodarte’s Los Angeles County Museum of Art-acquired 10-piece spring/summer 2012 couture collection, which debuted last June at Florence fashion fair Pitti W, is finally scheduled to make its North American debut. LACMA will present the pieces in an exhibition titled, “Rodarte: Fra Angelico Collection,” from December 17 to February 5, 2012.
Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the
California born and bred sisters behind Rodarte, found inspiration in
Italian Renaissance art for the collection, specifically High Roman
Baroque sculptor Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini’s “The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa," as well as early Renaissance painter Fra Angelico’s
frescoes in the monks’ cells at the Convent of San Marco. In a
seemingly appropriate twist, LACMA will display the gowns against works
from the same period that inspired them — including the circa 1491-95
painting by the Master of the Fiesole Epiphany, “Christ
on the Cross With Saints Vincent Ferrer, John the Baptist, Mark, and
Antoninus” — in the museum’s Italian Renaissance gallery. - - follow more about this
That hourglass dress, red-carpet dominance, a London Fashion Week show, a new flagship store - and the Olympics. Stella McCartney has her name all over 2012, writes Jess Cartner-Morley.
The party Stella McCartney throws every December at her
Bruton Street store in central London to celebrate the switching on of
her kitsch-chic Christmas windows has become a fashion insider's
highlight of the party season. It is fabulous but fun too - there are
pints of Guinness as well as flutes of champagne; chocolate Santas
alongside smoked salmon canapes. - - Read more:

There’s no show like the Farah Khan fashion show. You can’t call yourself a “fashionista” yet if you have not attended one of her fashion extravaganza. And at last night’s Melium gala, she proved the point yet again. With beautiful Miss Universe Malaysia 2011, Deborah Henry at the helm, and accompanied by loud and fast-paced techno beat, the stream of never ending models rocked the night away with YSL, PUCCI and 3 collections from Farah Khan. Asia truly rocks! I have to say the FK or Farah Khan Collections were truly impressive and thrilling. I was rocking to the loud techno beat while taking photographs of the models. I just can’t wait for the next model to come out and so on. I was enjoying the music too much that some of my photos came out blurry. Oh well, that’s OK. At least I enjoyed myself. – – Read & View more here
Mari Shimazaki told me via email she originally met SCV’s art director at a party, mentioned she was looking forward to the game, and then when she became a freelancer, found herself called in for a meeting. She has three designs in the game — the primary costume for new character Leixia, and the alternate costumes for Tira and Ivy. Just before this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Namco announced that in addition to their internal Project Soul development team, three external developers were helping create Soul Calibur V — CyberConnect2 on the story, and Creative Intelligence Arts/Forcewick Sound Design on the audio. And now they’re adding one more to that list, with Bayonetta character designer Mari Shimazaki contributing costumes. Namco calls her a “guest costume designer,” keeping the terminology they use for “guest characters” like Ezio in SCV. - – continue viewing more Costumes Here
