Fashion Week Milan Fall 2012 trend

©ourtesy Beatrix Zwart | Yahoo! Fashion

Milan Fashion Week has drawn to a close and we’ve taken a look at the key trends to emerge for next season from the Italian catwalks. Fur, as already seen on the Autumn/Winter 2012 runway in both New York and London, also returned to Milan as the winter outerwear favorite.

AW12 trend: Fur. Missoni, Gucci and Etro.

Soft fur jackets contrasted Etro’s boho styles and Missoni’s signature colorful knitted stripes while two-tone fur complimented Marni’s block color collection. Full fur coats were seen at Gucci and Fendi, the former adopting a classic look while the latter opted for bright dyed fur.

AW12 trend: Slate. Anteprima and Sportmax.

Slate emerged as the pantone of choice for office wear with Anteprima showcasing sleek pencil skirts and matching layered gilets in tones of grey, and similarly Sportmax presented shift dresses with black satin touches – clearly charcoal chic is next seasons working wardrobe. Tweed, dogtooth and pinstripes, all honed next season’s trends. Favouring tweed was Giorgio Armani who sent models down the catwalk in masculine suits complete with sweeping side trilbies, while Prada’s trouser printed tweed suits in orange and brown had a significant retro feel. AW12 trend: Tweed. Prada, Moschino and Giorgio Armani

Moschino’s classic black and white dogtooth pattern appeared on tailored outwear while pinstripes appeared on waterfall wrap jackets at Emporio Armani. Glamouros evening wear and ball gowns decorated in luxurious lace, embroidery and embellishment were seen at Alberta Ferretti, Bottega Veneta and Dolce & Gabbana. A dark colour palette with touches of gold and sparkling white marked the red carpet evening wear trend. AW12 trend: Lace. Alberta Ferretti and Bottega Veneta.

La piece de resistance however, was seen at the finale of Roberto Cavalli’s show, in the form of a textured aubergine gown donned by supermodel Naomi Campbell, who appeared radiant as ever in Cavalli’s luxurious halterneck dress complete with black long leather gloves and shiny long locks. Military also re-surfaced as a key trend for the coming season as both Maxmara and Salvatore Ferragamo’s models paraded the shows in army dress. Maxmara favoured the traditional khaki trench and military cap, while Salvatore’s brass button up jacket complete with leather satchel and high boots paid reference to historical army uniforms. AW12 trend: Military. Maxmara and Salvatore Ferragamo.

Luxe metallics also shone through as a key trend for next season with Just Cavalli and Versace respectively showcasing bronze and silver skin-tight jumpsuits and dresses for Autumn/Winter 2012. The highlight however, was Jil Sander’s show. Taking to the stage for the last time, Raf Simons received a standing ovation for his feminine collection dotted with metallic statement pieces for Jil Sander as he bid the brand farewell.

Day #2: London F/W

London Fashion Week autumn/winter 2012 live blog day two

Follow all the action from London Fashion Week autumn/winter 2012 as it happens. Today: Get excited about Simone Rocha; Moschino Cheap and Chic makes its LFW debut; OMG Stella McCartney's in town, and more...

With a soundtrack spattered with hammering rain mixed by The Libertines, and a press release promising 'corrupted elegance' we were expecting big things from Todd Lynn. With well-cut seperates in autumnal tones of rust orange, chocolate brown and teal - Lynn seemed to tick all the boxes at first. Fur stoles made of Fisher, a 'relation' of Sable, added a touch of glamour but the collection still fell a little short. The designer's usual sculptural, futuristic aesthetic was there, while he attempted to branch out and make his first foray into draped silk. Shoulder high leather gloves added an interesting twist but otherwise the styling was basic. One note of interest came in the form of a gold feathered collar courtesy of Shaun Leane. - Sophie Warburton, fashion assistant, ©Daily Telegraph. Can you eat a jam doughnut without licking your lips? Well get practicing because if today's make-up looks are anything to go by, next season will be all about glitter on your lips. Call it a fajazzle if you will. We will. International Icons reign supreme at this London Fashion Week. Fashion Journalism from All over the Globe awaits more of London's fashion industry's fashion shows. Every Season the Fashion TV a media followers gear up many choices for the Fall season events. Fall 2012 is no different and the "Looks" are very strong and marketable.

17:24 Moschino Cheap and ChicMoschino Cheap And Chic's first show in London was a sugar-coated '60s vision of the capital says Stella magazine's style director, Kate Finnigan. Read her full show report here

PHOTOS: GETTYThe theme of Christopher Raeburn's first standalone women's presentation was 'freeze' and I can't think of any clothes I would rather wear when the temperatures fall. Lighter than air quilted nylon coats are filled with light weight wadding made from recycled PEP bottles, black nylon bomber jackets are all made from totally recycled Japanese nylon, and lightweight puffas are lined with fleece made from post consumer waste. Don't let any of that put you off however. It was all unbelievably chic - and warm too! - Tamsin Blanchard, Telegraph Magazine.

15:40 John Rocha

His daughter's star may be on the rise (Simone showed a punchy collection earlier today) but John Rocha isn't content to let his wane accordingly. As one of London's old guard and a longtime collaborator with Debenhams -hardly a hotbed of wild creative talent - it's easy to dismiss Rocha as outdated. Until, that is, one remembers that when it comes to texture, he reigns supreme. As ever, it was a collection grounded in black, but it came in crochet, lace, mongolian lambskin, felted wool and silk. To demonstrate: the opening look featured an inflated boulder of a taffeta jacket, hovering over a distressed woollen skirt, with a sheer black slip underneath. The shoes were just as texturally schizophrenic; little futuristic kitten-heel booties seemingly made of rubber, edged with glossy fur. They were fetishistic and I liked it. - Ellie Pithers, fashion intern.

London F/W: Digital Prints

LFW: Digital print + metallics on day 1

Good news! Two of our favorite trends have got a new lease of life for Autumn! Metallics have got dirty and more natural with pewter and copper replacing bright silver. The Felder Felder collection was apparently inspired by photos of nudes in caves by Ryan McGinley and you can see all the pretty stony colors in the beautiful prints. Jean-Pierre Braganza’s collection had a more industrial feel with moody pewter with metallic-detail patterns and more structured silhouettes. The brighter prints had delicious shots of purple through them and hidden chandeliers. PPQ mixed grown-up monochrome prints with moss green metallics and shiny black pieces and while there were quirky touches – the occasional heart sequin on a check and clusters of gems, tweed, sensible knits and floaty demure dresses mark a turning point for the LFW favourite. Apparently the inspiration was the ‘apocalyptic romance of winter’. [ All pics from Vogue. ] Fashion designers that represent British Fashion, worldwide and French fashion designers sometimes rely of America for setting the trends. But. The British Fashion Catwalk shows as well as Paris, many times reflect, many American Signature styles as were seen at New York Fashion week in the last week. Fashion Designers every try to bring Haute Couture and American Sportswear for the masses by way of RTW (Ready-to-Wear) fashions. Like Europe's Pret-a-porter, American clothes are marketed with the intention making the clothes affordable and marketable. Fashion events like Fashion Week New York City, FW London, FW Paris, FW Milan and others are prime examples of the Fashion industry's impact on the rest of the World of fashion looks. - - ©ourtesy of snapfashion.co.uk

Today: 15:30 Reclaim To Wear x Central Saint Martins

There's an injection of new blood at London Fashion Week's Estethica this season, showcasing the best in eco fashion. From Somewhere's Orsola de Castro, who is also creative director of Reclaim To Wear, an organization that labels up cycled capsule collections, has been working with students of second years students from Central Saint Martins. Ten teams have been using the fashion industry's surplus such as stock, remnants and off-cuts to create a catwalk piece and two "commercial" pieces. The work of two teams stands out: Third Collective's bold collages of texture and color, Angstrom's knitted shoes. Amazing what you can do with a few scraps, and food for thought in these cash strapped times when young designers could be making more use of the industry's excess fabrics and trims. A selection of the students' collections and films can be seen at reclaimtowear.com. - Tamsin Blanchard, style director, Telegraph Magazine.

London Fashion Week autumn/winter 2012 takes the baton from New York and kicks off this morning with a show by LFW veterans Antoni & Alison."There is fantastic talent as always, and the international audience is looking very strong," Caroline Rush, the elegant CEO of the British Fashion Council told AP .She cited Stella McCartney, holding her first stand-alone show in London since she graduated, and McQ, the second line from the Alexander McQueen fashion house led by Sarah Burton.  "There is great excitement about McQ because of Sarah Burton's success dressing Katherine Middleton for the royal wedding last year," Rush said.Rush said British heritage brands like Belstaff - also showing in London for the first time - and the return of regulars like Burberry, Christopher Kane, Erdem and Paul Smith should guarantee big crowds and motivated buyers. "There should be a lot to hold people's interest," she said.

New York's Fashion Week concludes over 300 shows

(CNN) -- Dark colors, bold patterns and shimmering fabrics emerged as prominent themes from New York's Fall 2012 Fashion Week, which concluded Thursday after a packed schedule of more than 300 shows. While runway fashion tends to be over the top for most of us mere mortals, it sets the tone for what to expect in stores this fall. With around 320 shows and presentations this season -- a 60% increase from five years ago, according to industry digest Business of Fashion -- that's a big pool of inspiration to draw upon. "New York Fashion Week just keeps getting bigger and bigger, and the calendar more packed," said Leah Chernikoff, executive editor of style blog Fashionista, which had wall-to-wall coverage of Fashion Week. "There's something nice about New York Fashion Week being so democratic -- anyone with some serious hustle (and cash) can show." Insiders dish: My most embarrassing Fashion Week moments Fashion Week also marks some of the biggest morestateside gatherings of industry heavyweights, acolytes and the people who love to document them. Those milling about the periphery of shows tend to generate headlines and images equally as captivating as the runway. "Street style and the folks who document it has become such a phenomenon," Chernikoff said. "The shows are just as big outside the venues as inside on the runway. Swarms of photographers stake out Lincoln Center, Milk Studios and the galleries in Chelsea to get a shot of the peacocking well-heeled editors, stylists, bloggers and buyers who attend the shows. "On the runways, blanket coats, furs and structural outerwear figured prominently, in a nod to the season. They ran the gamut: luxurious and classic alpaca coats from Jill Stuart, big and cuddly jackets, courtesy of Michael Kors, fur-lined and embellished trenches and pea coats from Altuzarra. Pantsuits were among the highlights of reality show darling Rachel Zoe's first runway show for her third collection. Another celebrity outside the fashion world, Victoria Beckham, was praised for her skin-tight yet seemingly practical collection of knit and jersey dresses. Photos: Iconic fashion photographer captures intimate portraits Designer of the moment Jason Wu wowed critics with an Asian-inspired collection that included lace evening dresses, Mao-esque military jackets and shirts, and a standout epaulet dress with a shaved black mink embroidered into the front. Wu was one several favorites of first lady Michelle Obama showing collections at Fashion Week, along with Prabal Gurung, Thakoon Panichgul and Chris Benz. And then there were dresses, hundreds of them, in seemingly every pattern and texture imaginable, notable among them Proenza Scouler based on sheer variety alone. As for women's separates, a vast lineup of layers of skirts, sweaters, vests, skinny jeans and belts (Rag and Bone, we're looking at you) should ensure a warm winter for the wearer. "In the same way that in tough economic times we've seen a trend towards comfort food, I think there's something to be said in fashion to wanting to be cozy and warm and comfortable (but stylish too!)" Chernikoff said in an e-mail. Insiders share hilarious first memories of Fashion Week Fashion Week would be incomplete without glamorous evening wear, and this year was no exception. Shimmering fabrics and sheer silhouettes graced many a catwalk, with standout pieces from Marchesa, Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren that are likely contenders for the celebrity red carpet, Chernikoff said. Another fixture of Fashion Week: The celebrity front row hosted a large sampling of pop culture's biggest names, including but not limited to Rooney Mara, Viola Davis, Debra Messing, Jessica Alba, Arianna Huffington, Kristin Chenoweth, Claire Danes, Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen, Idris Elba, even athletes like tennis player Maria Sharapova and New York Giant Victor Cruz, who also cut the ribbon on Fashion Week. Speaking of local celebrities, somber news befell the final days of Fashion Week with the passing of New York socialite and beloved party animal Zelda Kaplan on Wednesday. The 95-year-old truly died as she lived, spending her last waking moments in the front row of the Joanna Mastroianni fashion show at Lincoln Center, where she collapsed before being rushed to a hospital. Regarded as a symbol of aging with panache, she was a fixture of the New York arts scene and the subject of a 2003 documentary film, "Her Name is Zelda." "I'm a curious person," Kaplan once said, according to The New York Times. "I want to keep learning until it's over. And when it's over, it's over." Related articles

New York Fashion Week: Marc Jacobs hires underage models for catwalk show

Marc Jacobs latest: Enters underage models debate by hiring two 14 year-olds to walk in his fall/winter 2012 show, which is against industry guidelines.

Pre-New York Fashion Week, chairman of the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), Diane von Furstenberg, released an exhaustive list of guidelines aimed at keeping models fit. Supplying healthy meals on fittings, professional help for those struggling with eating disorders and checking IDs to ensure models are over 16 pre-shows were just some of the items on the modelling check list. But it seems this last one has already been forgotten. Less than two weeks after the list was released, top designer Marc Jacobs has sent two underage models down his autumn/winter 2012 catwalk on Monday, February 13. Brazilian model Thairina Garcia and star of the winter 2011 Prada campaign, Ondira Hardin, both took to the catwalk despite the fact that they are both, reportedly, 14 years-old. Far from being apologetic, Jacobs has defended his choice of models, insisting that the CFDA's Health Initiative cannot influence his shows: "I do the show the way I think it should be and not the way somebody tells me it should be," he told the New York Times. "If their parents are willing to let them do a show, I don't see any reason that it should be me who tells them that they can't," he continued. "There are children actors and children models for catalogues and stuff, so I guess if a parent thinks it's ok and a kid wants to do it, it's fine." The comments are the latest in a debate that began when a group of female MPs, led by Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson, announced that they wanted young models to have similar rights to child actors and actresses, namely chaperones to take them to shoots and shows. You can blog fashion Haute couture runway shows from fashion designers like Elie Saab, Marc Jacobs, Prabal Gurung, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Oscar de La Renta by independent fashion eMagazines. Nicole Miller showed a lovely, Bohemian-chic collection for autumn–winter 2012–13, with A-line dresses, bell bottoms, fringes and hats (and there were also hats at Mara Hoffman and Nicholas K), bringing the Woodstock era and early 1970s to a 2010s’ audience. Miller employed clever digital printing, which meant the collection was, to some degree, driven by the latest technology and her desire to do something new. Her reference to ‘parallel times’ in the notes meant just that: the ability to re-create a retro style that works with the current Zeitgeist, with the latest techniques in design and manufacture. For that, she gets top marks. In the 70s, particularly at Henri Bendel the store often featured the young designer, Stephen Burrows exclusively. He remains innovative to Fashion today as does  Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera, Ann Klein, Tracy Reese the newer designer, Donna Karan, House of Bill Blass and newcomer, Prabal Gurung are very much today's cutting edge American designers. All of these fashion designers represent Americana Fashion, worldwide. French fashion designers somewhat rely on America for setting the trends globally. France's Fashion Catwalk shows in Paris, many times reflect many of American Signature styles. New York Fashion week is an example of Haute Couture and American Sportswear for the masses in the US.
