The 29th Annual Sunset Junction Street Fair is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 22 & 23, on 3700 to 4300 Sunset Boulevard and 4000 to 4200 Santa Monica Boulevard, in the Silver Lake district of Los Angeles. We invite you to join using this special celebration of our community's diversity. In the last28 years, we expect tens of thousands of people to attend this citing community event, and we are counting on you to help make it a special success. In addition to over 200 craft, artisan, non-profit organizations & testing units, and food booths, this year's fair will include threemusical stages, and a carnival midway. Michael exemplified the Innocence of Honest Beauty and the Pureness of Inner Beauty. How fortunate for us on this planet that he left us so much Music and Words that we will have, always. Michael also left us THREE Little Glowing Lights who reflect the Warmth of their Father. We wish them well and I hope they are treated much kinder than Michael was. Do America a big favor this year and cast your VOTE, even if you never did before. America really needs some "newness" added to it. Reagan seemed to have created the ultimate monster(s) in America much to everyone's dismay but not SURPRISE! Enough Already.
Let's stop thinking about how people look for one minute and then maybe we can focus on the important things. Like "Survival". So. Let's show the rest of the world how fashionable we really are and start a whole NEW trend in the development of frankness and honesty in Politics. Barack Obama offers us that possibility and option. But it ain't goin' happen if we American's don't do our part and respond to the need for true CHANGE in the way we do things.

Los Angeles, CA: For those of you too young to know or remember the 80s or the 70s. Well no doubt, the Singers and Artist from that era would have had you jumpin' to that time's Music. The "Sunset Junction Street Fair" is an Annual Event held right on SUNSET BLVD., in Hollywood every summer, in August, for the past 25 years. This years Street Fair was originally supposed to be headlined by ISSAC HAYES. But as everyone knows, we lost "Chef" (South Park) the day after the great Bernie Mac's demise. So. Some other folks stepped in from Mr. Hayes era to pay homage. People Like headliners: Sam Moore of "Sam & Dave" (Hit: Soul Man, Hold On I'm Comin'), whom Issac Hayes wrote many of the Duo's early hits. Jean Carn (Hit: Free Love) of the famous Philadelphia, Gamble & Huff team. There was Billy Paul (Hit: Me & Mrs. Jones), Michael Henderson (Hit: My Valentine & Can't We Fall in Love Again w/Phyllis Hyman), Jeffrey Osborne (Hit: Back in Love Again) and the incredibly talented & gorgeous, Stephanie Mills, star of the Wiz on Broadway. Plus dozens of hits. Stephanie "Rocked the house". Or should I say, "Rocked the Streets". It was amazing to see so much talent in one setting. We even had a few in the audience. Garrett Morris of the old SNL was there cheering on his buddy, Billy Paul.
So! If you ever plan on visiting Los Angeles in August, try looking up the schedule for the shows before hand, online. It's always on the weekend, both nights. Saturday and Sunday. And it's a great place for kids or adults. Theres tons of all sorts of ethnic food, rides, merchants and fun that stretches almost 20 square blocks. We’ve had a busy month at loosing some of the “rich girls” of society who got lucky by marrying the “right guys”. Leona Helmsley and Brooke Astor who both took their dead husband’s money to the next level. My kinda women. Leona obviously a survivor who after that big scandal about how she treated her staff, still continued to rule with her iron fisted face and talent for saving a penny. Unlike Leona. Brooke Astor ruled her organization with a short leash. But. Rivaled her benefactors with great scrutiny and decision making whenever contributing to their cause. Quite the management expert. All in all, Brooke Astor was always dressed to the nines upon appearance and presentation of herself. She really kept Paris and NYC couture designers afloat with all those expensive “Suits and Dresses”. She wore them all so well, back in the day. Leona Helmsley? Well. That’s another story. Though she always played it safe with her wardrobe. By no means was her style that of Brooke Astor. Yet. They both taught their counterparts and colleagues what a girl can do with a few bucks given the right opportunity.

Here’s the “ Spring 2008 Fashion Week Schedule” for New York City’s, Fall 2007 Collections. Of course this is for Spring 2008 and it should prove to be a good one. Since a lot of our American designers are really cutting edge these with days, with their own stores, private collections, ready-to-wear lines, QVC and so on. The collections maybe still significant to sales and this collection should prove to be no different. So. Get in line for your viewing. Or. Do like lots do and sneak your way in. Whatever, however you get to partake. It’s never a bore. And yes! Don’t forget to bring your armor. The girls are getting more and more agreessive as I’ve been told. Thank God moi doesn’t have to deal with that bunch anymore. Have fun everyone and “….have a fashionable good time”.

What would the Oscars look like without diamonds? Or the Golden Globes? What would Hollywood be like without diamonds? How about Paris Hilton without diamonds? Ever wonder if fashion would be as hot if it weren’t for diamonds? Let’s face it, there is a reason diamonds are said to be a girl’s best friend – they are utterly versatile and go with any outfit.

How STOICAL is this photo? It takes so little to be famous these days. Example! "American Idol" , "America's Next Top Model", "Survivor", "The Next Best Thing" .... and it goes on and on and on and on... this IS our NEW reality! When are we going to get a break. Society has begun taking young people who basically stand for absolutely N O T H I N G (simply because they haven't had much of life's experience) and elevated them, like Paris, to International icons. This brings to mind one thing. That. It is not only America that is starving for "Icons", "Stars" & "Heroes". But. The rest of the world too is bored, idle, confused and even desperate. There is also something also to be said for young people being such easy prey of this dire need to fill this VOID. Hence, Paris Hilton. She really shouldn't take any of the "blame" for societies desperate attempt to find interesting subjects or subject matter to help fill this gap afflicted by so many, many dull people. The lack of recognition & celebration of our modern day true "Heroes and Sheroes" goes on without question. This is why Paris Hilton gets top billing. No one seems to understand what a farce it is to make a fuss over someone that is sooooooooooo, soooo, well, ..........UNIMPORTANT!
Seems like we don't know WHAT the hell to value anymore. Or who? This is why people like "Paris Hilton" become such an easy subject to talk about. Better yet. Prey! She's able, all by her lack of self, conjour up media frenzy & attention. Certainly, we now know that the "Press" is always waiting for the next desperately shallow and boring candidate, seeking free promotion for whatever they don't do, cannot do or want to do. It's just all getting out of hand. As I said. This is no fault of Paris that the world is missing a champion! She just happens to be available most of the time. We await the next targeted celebrity wannabe that hungers to find world status. But. It still is sad though, to think, that people have resorted to making a person like "PARIS HILTON", a person of public interest.

Ok? Which one of those bitches squeezed "baby oil" on the floor helping to cause "Miss Rachel's mishap. That tumble was very, veeeeery shady. The poor thing hadn't taken but two steps and there she was, facing the horizon. Anywho? Let's not forget the pressure our poor Miss USA was under with Mexico's notables, heckling and booing her based on our government's policies. That was indeed, very unfortunate that she would have to have undergone that added strain of having to strut across that stage, looking pretty and smiling while being ridiculed. Not to worry though. Rachel will get over it. Mexico will too. But will the Press ever let Rachel or us forget it?
Riyo Mori a 20-year-old dancer from Japan, was crowned Miss Universe 2007 dressed in a black base gown, trimmed with a diamond set-in chiffon print that flowed very nicely on the stage. Sort of a combo of Pucci and Giorgio Sant'Angelo. All together an interesting evening.

The world has lost yet another beacon of Love and Peace, Yolanda King at the age of 51. Yolanda died suddenly of a suspected heart attack while visiting family here in California where she lived. This is certainly been a rocky month for me mostly because I also knew her. I had the priviledge of working with Yolanda as her costumer on a film and she was such a pleasant person to be around. Wishes go out to the King Family once again so soon after the loss of Mother, Coretta Scott King. The light of the world flickers silently without wonderful people like Yolanda, Mother Coretta and Father Martin.

The always surprising to see, Isabella Blow passed away last week from what is believed to have been ovarian cancer. I am sure not only her fans but some of our recent talent will surely miss her. Isabella help launch careers of several top models and designers. Like Anna Piaggi, Isabella always stopped traffic, to say the least. It was mostly because of those lovely Phillip Tracy hats that adorned her lovely head. She leaves a husband, Detmar Blow who shared the news with the press about the loss of his wife. Isabella Blow was supposedly disinherited by her family, years ago prior to heading to New York. In the early 80's she attended university, temporarily, whilts embarking on her editorial career working under the watchful eye of Anna Wintour of Vogue. The fashion industry, no doubt, will miss her very much.

After viewing a program this morning with and about "Dr. Renee Richards", the controversial Sex-Change Tennis player who made headlines in the 70s. I wondered once again. When are folks just gonna get over it? Is society ever going to make it ok to be who you ARE. Dr. Richards says that she believes, that even after her death, she will always be remembered as "the Transsexual Tennis Player". I think she's absolutely right about that, I am afraid to say. How powerful a legacy is that? And. How truely shallow of society to do that. Here we have a brilliant physician/surgeon, educator, writer and terrific athlete. Yet. She is still treated as the Guy who decided one day to be a Girl instead! Ms. Richards does not consider herself any sort of a pioneer or crusader. But. Somehow society has managed or decided for her, what her LEGACY shall be. What nerves we have...!
I tell my friends all the time. The freedom of "CHOICE" is the most powerful thing given to us all, at birth. We ALL come into this world with it. It's a given. From inception we are all given the OPTION to Live or Die. The OPTION to CHOOSE or NOT. Though! Our choices are always in question and sometimes, if not often, scrutinized and judged. By no means should we give up that POWER of "CHOICE". Without it, there is no living. Dr. Richards certainly has held on to her powers, for dear life and I say. "my hats off to you Dr. Renee Richards.

The Passing of Distinguished Actor Roscoe Lee Browne...!

The well known voice of so many Films & Commercials, passed away on April 11, 2007 of Cancer, at Cedar-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. The incredibly gifted Mr. Browne was a sort of a Renaissance man of our times. Besides being a brilliant actor. Mr. Browne was a Master of Languages and taught at University for several years. He was also a track star, winning the 880-yard run in the 1952 Millrose Games. Roscoe Lee Browne also wrote poetry and included some of it along with works by masters such as Lawrence Ferlinghetti and William Butler Yeats in "Behind the Broken Words," a poetry anthology stage piece that he and Anthony Zerbe performed annually for three decades. A real talent and a great voice of art & artist. Roscoe Lee Browne was 81 years old.

Yes! She is pretty. Yes! She is a Model and Talk Show Host. But? Can you please STOP trying to remind us Tyra. Don't get me wrong. Tyra is a Gorgeous woman. No doubt she's aware of that. But. We need to have you move on Tyra onto another more fascinating subject. If only Tyra and so many other celebrities could come across a bit more themselves. It would be so refreshing. Tyra tries to be approachable. But is she really? I WONDER. Although, like Oprah these African-American successful women seem to fall into their Black stance when confronted about ethnic subjects or issues. You know. The old "...alright Gurl", and "...that's right honey" thang. But it still looks pretentious. Or worse yet. Theatrical! And by the way. Is Tyra's hair getting straighter, blonder and more Swedish? Kinda startin' to look a little weird.
